Synopsis:
The live Big Broadcast of America’s hit radio comedy runs into big trouble when family man Henry Flemming suddenly wants to be a private eye. Thrills and chaos ensue, but the show must go on. Firesign Theater legend David Ossman and his son, writer-director Orson Ossman, have created a unique, conceptual stage production with music, costumes, cocktails, and microphones.
Tone of Show:
This is a genre-bending, satirical parody of golden-age sitcoms and radio. These characters walk the line between archetype and caricature. All characters should be heightened and exaggerated to fit their type.
Individual Character Notes:
Henry Flemming: Our hero, an unassuming man who has had an entire career running a company. He is ready to retire early and pursue his secret passion: being a detective—something quite outside his wheelhouse, and very out of character for his life. (Late 40s-early 60s)
Karen Flemming: Henry’s wife, a decade younger than her husband. The quintessential housewife of classic television, blissfully unaware of anything outside her living room. (30s-50s)
Stan Spencer: The Flemmings' pain-in-the-neck neighbor. A caricature of your least favorite social acquaintance with an obnoxious voice. He is smarter than he looks. (40s)
Suzy Spencer: Stan’s long-suffering wife, equally as obnoxious as her husband—whom she hates. (30s)
Walter Larsen: Karen’s father, a Connecticut Country Club board member type. (Late 60s-70s)
Lt. Davis: A straight-laced plainclothes “cop,” later revealed to be the gay lover of a mobster, which should be a surprise to the audience. (40s)
Miss Havenhurst: A sweet young thing who’s had a rough life—or the perfect disguise for a femme fatale. Think Ingrid Bergman meets Gloria Grahame. (Late 20s)
Vito Mardigian: A tough, threatening hoodlum with imposing size and strength, but a bit thick. (40s)
Fiddler on the Roof

Synopsis:
Whidbey Island Center for the Arts is seeking an ensemble of 13 multi-talented actors/singers/dancers to portray the entire cast of Fiddler on the Roof. This scaled-down Fiddler takes a show identified with the experience of Eastern European Jews a century ago and makes it apply to any community faced with rapid cultural change, including those very much present here and now. Although Fiddler on the Roof is set in early 20th-century Russia, we are seeking a diverse company of actors that reflect the world we live in today. This challenging concept will include puppets and all but 3 actors will play all the roles. Below is an example of the roles, with final casting decisions made by the directing team.
Please prepare a song and monologue that reflect the type of role you'd like to be considered for. The total time should not exceed 3 minutes in length. Bring your sheet music, a picture and resume, and a list of any conflicts you might have.
Rehearsals are in the evening, from February 24 - April 9. Fiddler runs April 10-27, possibly on Easter. Shows are on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees.
