Treat yourself to an afternoon of music from the (mostly) Classical era. This program features music by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Hummel, with one throwback to the Baroque in a violin/piano sonata by Johann Sebastian Bach. From the frolicking to the fierce, the silly to the sublime, this afternoon with the great masters of the age is sure to rouse, please and inspire!
Performing in this concert are Island Consort members Cynthia Morrow, Violin; Brian Kenney, Violin; Linda Morris, Viola; James Hinkley, Cello; Dyanne Harshman, Flute and Sheila Weidendorf, Piano. Island Consort is Whidbey's resident Early Music ensemble. Members of the Consort regularly perform chamber music concerts with works from all eras. Come back to WICA in May for our first annual Schubertiad…an all-Schubert program featuring Schubert's "F Major Octet" and his beloved "Trout Piano Quintet."
From Island Consort Artistic Director Sheila Weidendorf:
I am very excited about this program, featuring music from some of the greatest composers of the classical age, with one earlier gem from Bach because, frankly, nothing is greater than Bach! The Classical era—following the Baroque and before the Romantic era—gave us certain structures of musical perfection within which the gamut of human emotion and experience is explored. Every age, of course, has gifted us with its unique voices and genius; one can hardly choose, for example, Mozart over Beethoven. And while I often like to perform concerts that juxtapose radically different music, there is joy in the coherence of performing a program that follows the unfolding of musical development in time.
Join members of Island Consort for an evening immersion into the Classical era, with a Haydn String Quartet, Mozart's Piano Quartet K478, Beethoven's much beloved "Spring Sonata," and Hummel's "Trio for Flute, Cello & Piano Opus 78, No 6." With pianist Sheila Weidendorf, violinist Brian Kenney, Flutist Dyanne Harshman, Cellist James Hinkley, violist Linda Morris and violinist Cynthia Morrow-Hattal.
