"TEACHING WITH TALES: STORYTELLING FOR EDUCATORS”
Storytelling can be used to improve students' listening and problem-solving skills, enhance vocabulary and language skills, and academic content. Through demonstration, lecture, discussion, and experience, participants will become acquainted with techniques, resources, and uses for storytelling in the classroom. For storytellers, teachers, librarians- anyone who works with children.
Instructor: NAOMI BALTUCK
“YOU ARE THE HERO: STORYTELLING THAT STARTS AT HOME”
Stories told in the home, especially personal and family stories of triumph, can be the most powerful stories we tell to children and each other. Using the hero’s journey as our guide, we will seek out personal narratives that inspire courage, hope, and heroic transformation through every stage of life. Instructor: KATHERINE GEE PERRONE
“TELLING TALES THAT TRANSFORM: STORYTELLING FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE”
Since listening to stories evokes a sense of unity and shared empathy within an audience, then telling carefully crafted stories can open the door to tackling social injustices. When we engage our communities through story, we motivate our listeners and create opportunities for sustainable change. Through discussion, exercises, and handouts, learn how to develop and tell a story designed for your specific goals and find multiple resources that offer guidance in accomplishing this important work.
