This group included lyres and harps, but also early long necked instruments with pear shaped bodies. These did not exist in a vacuum, of course, and were likely influenced by the oud, lute, and more. Ultimately, instruments called cythara evolved into the violin, viola, and the guitar.
Feriante and Chapman cast a wide net, going back to the roots of strings from around the world. They will feature instruments such as the banjo from Africa, the oud and buzuq from the Middle East, the sitar and swar sangam from India…The baroque lute and baroque guitar from Europe, the Zhongruan of China, and South American instruments like the charango. Of course, more well known instruments are also an important part of the show's “cast of characters” as Feriante calls them. There will be classical and flamenco guitars, the Gypsy Jazz guitar, ukulele, electric guitar, and more! They expect to bring 15 different instruments each to offer guests a musical sampler platter of multicultural delights.
