Anchor Bill Plante in "Conversation on the State of American Politics"

  • Whidbey Island Center for the Arts 565 Camano Avenue Langley, WA, 98260 United States (map)

During his 52 years at CBS News, Bill Plante reported from Washington, Saigon, Moscow, Berlin, Phnom Penh, and the American South during the voting rights marches of the mid-1960s. He covered the White House through the tenures of numerous presidents and served several tours in Vietnam during the war there. He also anchored the CBS Sunday Night News for seven years. His CBS career spanned nine presidents and just about every continent. Scott Pelley, the current CBS anchor, has said of him, ``He’s integrity wrapped in talent wrapped in grace.’’ Plante will be interviewed on stage by Whidbey’s Robert Merry, who first met Plante when they covered the White House together in the 1980s.
